About this venue

A tiny gay dive bar behind the Model Milk building, serving Calgary's LGBTQ+ community since 1987. Known locally as The Bunker, it is more about inexpensive drinks, karaoke, VLTs and seeing familiar faces than a polished cocktail production. The single-room scale is part of the charm, but Pride nights can become uncomfortably cramped.

Long-time gay and bisexual male regulars, an older clientele, neighbourhood drop-ins and friends form the core. Younger queer visitors appear around karaoke and Pride, but this is not Twisted's student-heavy dance floor. Locals dominate outside festival weekends; the hidden entrance keeps casual tourist traffic low.

Dress code in practice

No formal code: casual pub clothes, denim, workwear and whatever survived the Alberta weather fit. The parking-lot entrance is more confusing than the fashion threshold. Bring identification, dress for a tiny warm room and do not arrive expecting a polished western theme despite the name.

Staff inclusion

Recent comments repeatedly praise the bartenders as the reason to return, and the bar explicitly describes itself as welcoming to the LGBT+ community. Space is the practical limitation: tight circulation and a very small washroom can be difficult. The connected bathhouse has separate men-only membership rules; bar acce
