Venue Detail
The Drake Underground
About this venue
Descend below the stylish lobby of the West Queen West indie art hotel icon and enter The Drake Underground, Toronto's ultimate moody, multi-genre culture bunker. Far from the glossy, commercial loops of the downtown clubs, this intimate 200-capacity basement cavern is a legendary incubation pad for creative boundary-pushers. It is an absolute chameleon of a space: one night you're sweating it out to underground electronic DJs and future-forward R&B beats, and the next you're snapping fingers at highly emotive poetry slams, alternative comedy sets, or queer album-release showcases.

Venue intelligence
Know before you go
Typical queue
Bypassing lines is easy for early weekday performances, but box-office ticket processing and security checks can cause a 15–20 minute wait during peak weekend concert entry times.
Best night
Drop in right around doors-open (usually 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM) for intimate live shows. Alternatively, slide down after 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday club nights to experience the basement when the room is packed and perfectly synchronized to the bass.
Locals vs visitors
A thoroughly creative, diverse, and eclectic mix of indie music heads, West End alt-queers, local artists, audiophiles, and trendy hotel guests looking for a taste of authentic Toronto night culture.
