About this venue

Nestled out in the Northern Suburbs, this massive, dual-level industrial dance fortress has been pumping out untamed queer joy for over two decades. This isn’t a high-maintenance lounge; it’s a carnival-esque, unapologetically loud paradise where the drinks are legendary for being incredibly cheap and the energy is utterly infectious. Downstairs is a massive, pulsing dance floor dripping with pop, house, and EDM bangers, while upstairs morphs into a chaotic, delightfully unhinged karaoke lounge where everyone is a diva for five minutes. It is camp, it is nostalgic, and it is a pure, sweat-drenched marathon of a night out.

Practical details

Address: 12 Caxton Street, Parow, Cape Town, South Africa, 7500

Hours: Friday and Saturday from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM (The upstairs karaoke lounge fires up right at 9:00 PM, and the main club room takes off around 11:00 PM).

Venue intelligence

Know before you go

Typical queue

Because it's a massive warehouse-style venue, the door handles crowds easily. However, lines will form between 11:30 PM and 1:00 AM when the central city crowd travels up; expect a 10 to 20-minute wait at peak times.

Best night

Arrive around 9:30 PM if you want to snag a good spot upstairs in the lounge, warm up your vocal cords for karaoke, and capitalize on their notoriously wild early-bird bar specials.

Locals vs visitors

A spectacular, fiercely loyal crowd of local everyday Capetonians, suburban queer royalty, drag icons, and an eclectic mix of multi-generational LGBTQ+ party animals who care way more about dancing than posing.

Dress code in practice

No-attitude means no fashion exam. Jeans, trainers, a colourful party shirt or a full karaoke-diva look all work. Dress for dancing and Cape Flats weather, and follow any advertised theme. The room rewards participation and friendliness more than labels or expensive clubwear.

Staff inclusion

Deeply rooted in the community. Stargayzers has survived for so long because it acts as an intentional, protective sanctuary for suburban queer people away from the mainstream city center.
