Venue Detail
Purex
About this venue
Purex Club is Lisbon’s legendary, fiercely treasured alternative queer matriarch. Hidden behind an unassuming door in the bohemian heart of Bairro Alto, this artsy, electronic sanctuary has been sticking it to commercial conformity for over two decades. It completely strips away the hyper-commercial pop and hyper-masculine circuit tropes of the mainstream scene. Instead, it serves up an intimate, retro-futuristic living room that transforms into a sweat-slicked, neon-lit dance cavern at night.

Venue intelligence
Know before you go
Typical queue
Highly unpredictable. On weeknights, you can stroll right past the threshold, but past 11:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, the sidewalk outside hits a heavy bottleneck. Expect a 20 to 45-minute wait to clear the front door because the indoor layout is famously compact and intimate.
Best night
Arrive right around 11:00 PM. Showing up in this window ensures you glide right past the freezing pavement queues, dodge the front-door capacity freeze, and grab a custom cocktail before the room hits peak density.
Locals vs visitors
While it is proudly celebrated as one of Lisbon's premier, essential sanctuaries for lesbians, bisexual women, trans folks, and the FLINTA community, it draws an incredibly fluid, zero-pretension crowd of non-binary creatives, local vinyl heads, and international alternative travelers.
Dress code in practice
Alternative casual wear, vintage, rave touches and expressive queer style all fit; there is no formal door fashion rule.
Staff inclusion
Unparalleled, exceptionally warm, and deeply embedded in Lisbon's independent artistic and activist networks. The bar crew and organizers place an absolute, zero-tolerance priority on maintaining a safe, inclusive, and gender-affirming protective ecosystem.
