About this venue

Apollo Sauna is Hamburg's cozy, authentic, and delightfully old-school neighborhood gay bathhouse. Shifting away from the massive corporate gloss of the St. Georg megaspa district, this Altona-Nord gem functions as the city's smallest and most intimate gay sauna. Drenched in a warm, welcoming community spirit, the layout delivers classic relaxation mixed with tight, dark cruising setups—featuring a Finnish sauna with fresh aromatic infusions, a humid steam room, a cooling plunge pool, a bar, video cubicles, a dedicated darkroom, and a cruising sling.

Venue intelligence

Know before you go

Typical queue

Virtually non-existent due to its low-profile, highly discreet neighborhood entrance.

Best night

Friday nights are a major local staple, specifically the fourth Friday of every single month when the venue plays host to the official Nordbären (Northern Bears) community night.

Locals vs visitors

A delightfully friendly, masculine, and grounded audience heavily dominated by mature gentlemen (40+), bears, chubs, otters, and the admirers who love them.

Dress code in practice

Stripped down immediately upon arrival. You are issued a towel and footwear at the counter; towels are standard in the social bar areas, while the sauna cabins, darkrooms, and steam chambers are strictly birthday-suit zones.

Staff inclusion

Exceptionally high. Because it functions as a tight-knit community fixture, the staff and the regulars all know each other by name, cultivating an immensely warm, safe, and protective environment that is explicitly certified as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space.
