Venue Detail
Volks Club
About this venue
The Volks Club is a gritty, raw, unpretentious seafront institution that prioritizes heavy bass lines over commercial gloss. Established in 1996, it is Brighton's oldest independent club. While primarily an underground temple for drum & bass, jungle, dubstep, and reggae, Volks effortlessly shifts gears during major city events to serve up beautifully chaotic, open-armed queer energy. It is the home of alternative subcultures where nobody cares what you look like or who you love—they only care if you are ready to let loose to the crushing vibrations of their legendary RC1 soundsystem.

Know before you go
Typical queue
During standard weekend raves, a queue forms quickly outside the arches between 11:45 PM and 1:30 AM. Ticketed events skip the main bottleneck, making advance purchases via Skiddle or DICE highly recommended.
Best night
Hit the beachfront terrace during a sunny afternoon for an outdoor day party. For night clubbing, arrive after 12:30 AM when the main room turns into an absolute furnace of high-octane bass music.
Locals vs visitors
An earthy, underground mix of old-school ravers, music purists, students, and alt-queer subcultures. It attracts a friendly, completely unpretentious crowd who are there strictly for the music and the community.
Dress code in practice
Completely non-existent. Come exactly as you are—whether that is streetwear, rave gear, or leather. There are no corporate bans on sportswear, though shoes are required for safety on the dance floor.
Staff inclusion
Volks prides itself on a welcoming, community-first ethos ("for the people"). The door team and bartenders are famously friendly and protective of their patrons. While it is a mainstream underground club rather than a full-time gay venue, it functions as a highly safe, judgment-free environment for LGBTQ+ individuals.
