About this venue

Café Den Draak (The Dragon Café) is the warm, beating heart and undisputed community living room of Antwerp's gorgeous Zurenborg neighborhood. Originally born in 2001 as a volunteer-led passion project beneath the local LGBTQ+ community center The Pink House / çavaria, this straight-friendly gay landmark flawlessly combines cozy neighborhood pub aesthetics with fierce queer soul. Boasting grand high ceilings, charming brick accents, and a classic black-and-white tiled floor, it trades modern club pretense for pure, open-armed hospitality.

Venue intelligence

Know before you go

Typical queue

Walk-ins are immediate and fluid throughout the week. However, their massive outdoor terrace bottlenecks rapidly during sunny afternoons and warm weekend evenings.

Best night

Drop in on a sunny Sunday afternoon to experience the terrace at its absolute finest, matching great beer flights with community chatter.

Locals vs visitors

A beautiful, multi-generational, and wonderfully laid-back tapestry. It blends local neighborhood regulars, trans and non-binary advocacy groups, international tourists, and old-school queer allies seamlessly.

Dress code in practice

Completely casual, relaxed, and everyday comfortable—wear whatever makes you feel good. Streetwear, casual denim, or comfortable daytime outfits are standard.

Staff inclusion

Deeply legendary for its community care and active safety. Since it is directly tethered to the Pink House organization upstairs, the entire staff is highly trained in queer history and active allyship.
