Venue Detail
Fincken
About this venue
Say hello to the rain-soaked capital's absolute monarch of queer joy Fincken. Originally throwing its doors wide open on May 17, 1992—powerfully aligning with what is now the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia—this historic gem stands proud as Bergen’s oldest and only full-time queer bar and club. Split across two vibrant levels, it serves a dual dose of personality: downstairs is a cozy, chatty neighborhood pub complete with their iconic mounted reindeer head artwork, while upstairs transforms into a neon-hazed pop and techno dance cage.

Venue intelligence
Know before you go
Typical queue
During weeknights, you can saunter straight into a bar stool. However, on Friday and Saturday nights after 11:30 PM—or anytime during the madness of Regnbuen (Bergen Pride)—the queue on Nygårdsgaten stretches down the block, generating a solid 20–40 minute wait time.
Best night
Wednesdays or Thursdays at 8:00 PM are perfection for a loose, conversational drink or catching specialized community programming like Singo or drag-led karaoke. For the full dancefloor experience, aim for 10:45 PM on a weekend to beat the peak entry crowd.
Locals vs visitors
A spectacular, intergenerational rainbow tapestry. You'll dance alongside fresh-faced university students, touring international backpackers, flamboyant drag artists, local trans organizers, and legendary silver-haired queer regulars who have frequented the bar since the 90s.
Dress code in practice
Intentionally non-judgmental—they explicitly broadcast that they do not care how you dress.
Staff inclusion
Exemplary and foundational. The house rules strictly establish a zero-tolerance policy against any form of transphobia, homophobia, racism, or boundary-crossing.
